Top 10 Tips for Wax Melts – You’ve found a wax melt fragrance you absolutely adore. Naturally, you want to enjoy it for as long as possible! While all Classic Candle wax melts are already a long-lasting home fragrance option, a few simple tricks can maximise their lifespan, ensuring you get every last whisper of scent from each cube or MiniPot.
Here are our top 10 tips for prolonging your melt’s performance.
Use the Right Amount of Heat.
More heat isn’t better. Use the lowest effective temperature on your electric warmer, or a standard tealight. Excessive heat can vaporise the fragrance oils too quickly, shortening the scent life.
Start Small.
Break off a piece of your melt if you can, especially for smaller rooms. A full melt in a compact space can be overwhelming and is often unnecessary. Starting with a small portion extends the life of the whole block.
Try a Mix of Scents in the Dish.
Layering is fun, mixing different fragrance families in the same liquid pool can create a brand new scent and can give you a unique new favourite, it is how we have created some of our most intriguing scents – Chocolate Orange, Brown Sugar and Spice, Cranberry Orange are great examples of mixes we liked and then had manufactured to match those exciting new fragrances.
Switch Off When Fragrant.
Don’t leave your melt warming indefinitely after the scent has filled the room. Once the fragrance is at its peak, turn off the warmer. The residual heat will continue releasing scent for a while.
Store Unused Melts Properly.
Keep melts in a cool, dark, dry place, sealed in their packaging or an airtight container. Heat, light, and humidity can degrade both the wax and the fragrance oils over time. Store strong fragrances seperately.
Let the Wax Cool and Re-solidify Completely.
After switching off your warmer, allow the wax to cool and harden fully before reheating it. This helps the wax structure and fragrance molecules to stabilise, ready for the next warming session.
Refresh the Pool.
After 2-3 uses, you can add a new block or the rest of a MiniPot just to give a little refresh and boost.
Clean Your Warmer Dish Regularly.
Old, discoloured wax residue at the edges of the dish can taint new scents. Clean your dish between fragrance changes to ensure a pure, true aroma every time.
Choose Quality Melts.
High-quality melts with a generous fragrance oil load (like our own) will naturally last longer than cheaper alternatives packed with filler oils that burn off quickly. We use fragrance oils with a high flashpoint where possible, which means you get the maximum longevity and true to life fragance for your money.
Reuse the “Spent” Wax.
Once the fragrance is gone, don’t just throw the wax away! Let it harden, pop it out, and use it as a firelighter for your wood burner or barbecue. It’s a wonderfully eco-friendly final act.
By following these easy steps, you can transform your wax melts from a delightful product into an incredibly economical and enduring luxury for your home.
